Tom Beattie Scores His 6th Goal of the Season

London City was bidding to improve their poor position in the standings in the hopes of positioning themselves to jump into the the top eight over the next few weeks. However, that plan feel apart with a 7-3 home loss to Portugal FC at the Cove Road Field in London.

The home side was no match for a lively Porugal FC side which took an early lead on a goal at 8 minutes by forward Jarek Whiteman.  London City did well to fight back and level the game 1-1 on a goal by Estevao Franco in the 21st minute.  Franco received a beautiful pass from Tom Beattie and headed the ball into the open net past 'keeper Mike Silva. 

Portugal’s John Jonke put his side up 2-1 at 39 minutes and just before the interval Branko Majstorovic made it 3-1 for the visitors.

Adrian Pena increased the Portugal lead to 4-1, scoring from the penalty spot at 62 minutes, and Pena scored a second goal two minutes later to make it 5-1. Ramon Baillie made it 6-1 and at 77 minutes.
 
Tom Beattie, who has been a needed bright spot for City thus far this season, struck his 6th of the season for the home side, making it 6-2. Genti Buzali gave London some hope with a goal at 86 minutes, but Baillie completed the rout four minutes later for a 7-3 final score.

Portugal FC move up to 7th place with a 5-5-2 record for 17 points, while London City have a 1-6-4 record for 7 points at the foot of the CSL First Division.

London will play away next Friday night in Hamilon when they take on FC Hamilton Croatia.  Game time is 9PM at Brian Timmins Stadium.
