Loague and Abidakun Awarded Honours!

North America's Oldest Professional Soccer Franchise Annouced Andrew Loague as the club MVP and Most Dedicated Player. Brian Abidakun netted Rookie of the Year honours.

LONDON - Tuesday, February 17 - Even when times are tough London City always finds ways to keep the ball rolling for professional soccer in London, Ontario.

It’s was 36 years this past Saturday – Valentine’s Day – since the club playing out of Cove Road in London changed the landscape of soccer in  Southwestern Ontario.

While 2008 was a season to forget for North America’s oldest professional soccer franchise, Ryan Gauss, C.E.O., and General Manager would rather look at the positive development that has taken place. Gauss alludes to all the hard work throughout the rebuilding process – as well as a few key signings to be announced shortly – and promises better results for the 2009 season.

“The past three years have been an extremely difficult rebuilding process, as we started right back at square one.” He explained. “However, after a lot of work by many people, this season is when the hard work and tough times are finally going to pay off – and by that I mean a legitimate shot at the playoffs.”

As is tradition every Valentine’s Day, the club released its list of anniversary honours. Andrew Loague, a 39 year-old team veteran and stalwart of the London soccer scene led the way capturing both the MVP and Most Dedicated Player award. Brian Abidakun, a gritty first year defender, was also announced as the Rookie of the Year.

Loague, who finished as the runner up in the Canadian Soccer League voting for MVP, scored a stunning 14 goals on the season and was the inspiration to all during a difficult campaign. His play, incredible work ethic and positive attitude are all reasons why he also landed Most Dedicated honours.
London City will play their home opener on Friday May 29, 2009 against the North York Astros, kick-off time will be 8:38PM.
