London City did enough in the first half to earn a victory over CSL 2008 champions Serbian White Eagles at the Cove Road ground in London Friday night, but a high flying visiting team came on strongly in the second half and the well-played encounter ended in a 1-1 tie.
London pressed early and were rewarded at the 65th minute mark with a goal by midfielder Patrick Bueno who took a pass from forward Aaron Byrd to find the net from 18 yards.
But London City received a set-back when Bueno, who has played in South Carolina and Kentucky and was acquired by London City on an international transfer, immediately received a second yellow card for excessively celebrating his goal and was ejected by referee Rich Oliveira.
It took just four minutes for Serbian Eagles to tie the game when forward Dragan Radovic beat London ‘keeper Anthony Santilli for a 1-1 tie which held to the interval despite several near misses by the home side.
Serbian White Eagles stepped up the pace early in the second half but the London defence held up with saves by Santilli to preserve the tie and the game ended 1-1.
