London and Wolves Battle to 2-2 Tie

2010-07-21

While there is still lots of time before the end of the regular season and the beginning of the playoffs early October, both London City and the St. Catharines Wolves expected to be in a more favourable position at this midpoint in the 2010 regular season campaign.

St. Catharines defender Daniel Mazzuca put is team in a good early position with a goal at the 28th minute mark, he took a cross from Carlo Arghittu to just beat London ‘keeper Scott Mueller who came close to making the save. It was 1-0 at half-time.

Midfielder Tom Beattie put London City on level terms with a well-placed free kick from 20 yards that caught the top corner of the net. Beattie’s goal, which came at 49 minutes, was his fifth goal of the season and forth from a set piece.

Stefan Kamendy put St. Catharines in front 2-1 at 71 minutes, scoring from the penalty spot following what the referee saw as hand ball in the box by London defender Sergio Siguenza.

The tying goal came 10 minutes later when Genti Buzali’s header from 15 yards beat Claudio Perri in the Wolves’ net to give London City the point, there second tie in two games.  City tied first place York Region Shooters 2-2 on Friday night.

St. Catharines Wolves are now at 2-7-2 WLT for 8 points as they occupy a tie for 11th position with Brampton Lions, while London City are now at 1-5-4 for 7 points at the foot of the table, though the Southwestern Ontario side does have a few games in hand on the teams above.
